Overview of Imported Monoammonium Phosphate (MAP) in Brazil.

In December 2022, the import volume of Monoammonium Phosphate (MAP) in Brazil surged to 234,000 tons, showing a strong overall expansion trend in imports. Russia (210,000 tons) emerged as the largest supplier of MAP to Brazil, accounting for 90% of the total imports. Moreover, the quantity of MAP imported from Russia exceeded more than ten times that of the second-largest supplier, China (13,000 tons). Saudi Arabia ranked third.

From January to September 2023, Brazil imported 3.85 million tons of MAP, marking a 14% year-on-year growth. The increase in supply from Russia, Morocco, and Saudi Arabia significantly compensated for the decrease in supply from the United States and China.

In September 2023, Brazil imported 473,000 tons of MAP, surpassing the September 2022 figure (241,000 tons). The supply from Russia increased by 2.5 times, with Morocco and Saudi Arabia nearly doubling their shipments to 208,000 tons and 166,000 tons, respectively. In September, China shifted its focus to Brazil, supplying 41,000 tons, an increase of 11,000 tons compared to September 2022. In contrast, the supply from the United States dropped from 24,000 tons in September 2022 to zero.

Russia supplied nearly half of Brazil's MAP import volume in the first three quarters, reaching 1.85 million tons, a 28% increase compared to the same period in 2022. Imports from Morocco and Saudi Arabia increased by 19% and 17%, reaching 1.05 million tons and 649,000 tons, respectively.

However, shipments from the United States and China decreased.

Brazil imported 190,000 tons from the United States, a 34% year-on-year decrease. Throughout most of the year, the prices for MAP from the United States (NOLA FOB price of $693-710 per ton) were higher than those from Brazil. The DAP/MAP prices offered by U.S. producer Mosaic were $570 per ton (fob Tampa), while recently, Russia sold MAP to Brazil at a CFR price of $550 per ton.

From January to September this year, China's supply to Brazil decreased by 26%, totaling 107,000 tons. Chinese producers have been focusing on selling diammonium phosphate in Asia and meeting domestic market demands.
