Myanmar Plans to Import 1.6 Million Tons of Fertilizer in Fiscal Year 2024-2025

To improve agricultural productivity and meet the needs of the agricultural sector, Myanmar outlined a plan to import up to 1.6 million tons of fertilizer in the fiscal year 2024-2025 at the Urea Fertilizer Procurement and Distribution Guidance Committee. This goal underscores the country's commitment to increasing agricultural output and ensuring food security for its people.

Furthermore, according to insights provided by the Myanmar Fertilizer, Seed, and Pesticide Entrepreneurs Association, the committee has approved the import of 679,999 tons of fertilizer and 10,922 tons of pesticides from April to June 2024. This decision will address the immediate needs of the agricultural sector and create an environment conducive to sustained growth. Myanmar imported 1.047 million tons of fertilizer in the fiscal year 2023-24.

Notably, Myanmar's efforts to strengthen fertilizer imports indicate a broader commitment to modernizing and revitalizing its agricultural sector. By prioritizing investments in critical inputs such as fertilizers and pesticides, Myanmar aims to provide its farmers with the necessary resources to increase crop yields and enhance overall agricultural productivity.
