Main Categories of Imported and Exported Fertilizers in China in March 2024

According to Chinese customs statistics, in March 2024, China exported a total of 1.96 million tons of various fertilizers. Among them, urea was 4200 tons, ammonium sulfate was 1,251,000 tons, DAP diammonium phosphate was 26,000 tons, and monoammonium phosphate was 400 tons.


From January to March 2024, China's cumulative exports of various fertilizers reached 4.96 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 11%; the cumulative export value was $1.01 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 52.1%. Among them, urea exports accumulated to 26,000 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 95.1%; ammonium sulfate accumulated to 3.1 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 11.1%; diammonium phosphate accumulated to 141,000 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 77.7%; monoammonium phosphate accumulated to 100,000 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 81.3%.

 

Based on nutrient conversion, from January to March, the cumulative exports of urea, ammonium sulfate, and diammonium phosphate from China amounted to 813,000 tons of pure nutrient nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium.

As for imports, in March 2024, China imported 1.31 million tons of various fertilizers. Among them, potassium chloride and ternary compound fertilizers of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium were imported in quantities of 1.2 million tons and 90,000 tons, respectively.

From January to March, potassium chloride imports totaled 3.84 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 49.2%; ternary compound fertilizer imports totaled 280,000 tons, a year-on-year increase of 34.8%.


Based on nutrient conversion, the cumulative imports of potassium chloride and ternary compound fertilizers from January to March amounted to 2.44 million tons of pure nutrient nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium.

From January to March, the implicit imports of fertilizers, converted from major grain and oil crops (grains, beans, and vegetable oils) in China, reached 2.16 million tons of pure nutrient nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, a year-on-year increase of 3.5%.
