China's major fertilizer imports and exports in September.

Urea exports surged, while exports of Monoammonium Phosphate (MAP) saw a slight decline.


Imports:


From January to September 2023, China imported a total of 9.25 million tons of various fertilizers with a value of $4.294 billion.


In September, China imported 1.15 million tons of various fertilizers with a value of $379 million, representing a 60.4% increase in quantity but a 14.2% decrease in value compared to the same period last year.


Potassium Chloride (KCl):

  • Accumulated imports for potassium chloride (KCl) from January to September reached 8.07 million tons with a value of $3.549 billion.

  • In September, China imported 1.05 million tons of KCl (compared to 810,000 tons in August) with a value of $319 million, showing a 63.9% increase in quantity and an 18.0% decrease in value compared to the same period last year.


NPK Compound Fertilizer:

  • From January to September, China imported 960,000 tons of NPK compound fertilizer with a value of $614 million.

  • In September, China imported 90,000 tons of NPK compound fertilizer (compared to 100,000 tons in August) with a value of $52.924 million, reflecting a 74.8% increase in quantity and a 43.1% increase in value compared to the same period last year.


Exports:


From January to September 2023, China exported a total of 22.67 million tons of various fertilizers with a value of $7.187 billion.


In September, China exported 3.77 million tons of various fertilizers with a value of $1.097 billion, indicating a 20.3% increase in quantity but a 23.6% decrease in value compared to the same period last year.


Urea:

  • Cumulative urea exports from January to September reached 2.83 million tons with a value of $1.087 billion.

  • In September, China exported 1.19 million tons of urea (compared to 310,000 tons in August) with a value of $436 million, reflecting a 241.7% increase in quantity and a 130.8% increase in value compared to the same period last year.


Ammonium Sulfate:

  • Accumulated ammonium sulfate exports from January to September reached 9.85 million tons with a value of $1.675 billion.

  • In September, China exported 1.38 million tons of ammonium sulfate (compared to 1.55 million tons in August) with a value of $217 million, indicating a 21.2% decrease in quantity and a 46.9% decrease in value compared to the same period last year.


Diammonium Phosphate (DAP):

  • Cumulative exports of diammonium phosphate from January to September reached 3.61 million tons with a value of $1.904 billion.

  • In September, China exported 360,000 tons of DAP (compared to 330,000 tons in August) with a value of $172 million, reflecting a 22.8% decrease in quantity and a 59.9% decrease in value compared to the same period last year.


Monoammonium Phosphate (MAP):

  • Cumulative monoammonium phosphate (MAP) exports from January to September reached 1.54 million tons with a value of $878 million.

  • In September, China exported 90,000 tons of MAP (compared to 320,000 tons in August) with a value of $46.168 million, indicating a 64.0% decrease in quantity and an 81.0% decrease in value compared to the same period last year.
