On March 18, U.N. Secretary-General's spokesman Stéphane Dujarric said that the "grain deal" has been extended and the U.N. called on all parties to redouble their efforts to fulfill the agreement. In his comments, Dujarric did not indicate how long the "grain deal" has been extended. He noted, however, that the Black Sea Grain Initiative, signed in July 2022, has been prolonged. The initiative allows for safe transportation of grain and related food and fertilizers from Ukrainian seaports, including ammonia fertilizers."
On March 17, Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov confirmed that Moscow had extended the agreement for 60 days. This agreement had previously been extended for 120 days. Russia's urea export price has dropped to $265 per ton. Once Russia's ammonia can be exported successfully, it will affect the international ammonia market on a large scale, thus affecting the global urea price, when China will also import a large amount of ammonia.
